GA 2

United Nations General Assembly, Second Committee (Economic and Financial)

Beverly Burgess, Chairperson

The Second Committee of the General Assembly exclusively deals with issues relating to economic growth and development, including international trade, sustainable development, poverty eradication, and globalization and interdependence.  The Committee also tackles issues relating to special situations, such as questions of ownership of natural resources.

In our 2009 Conference, topics will include issues on the Illegal Trafficking of Natural Resources, which poses the dangers of an Economic as well as Environmental crisis as guerilla and rebel militias exploit the natural resources of Africa, South-East Asia, and South America.  The Committee will also consider the issue of Land-Usage Rights of Indigeneous Peoples, who often struggle for recognizance and the usage of their ancestral lands.

A Full Report from the Chairperson will be available soon!
